A habitat-enrichment programme at Thabbowa Tank in Sri Lanka has developed green grasslands along the reservoir’s banks as a food source for wild elephants, according to the Daily Mirror.

The initiative was launched by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat. It is intended to help address human-elephant conflict by making natural food available to elephants in their habitat.

The Environment Ministry said the programme has shown promise in reducing wild elephants’ movement into villages in search of food. Dinamina described the project as part of a government plan to seek long-term, science-based solutions to the conflict.
