Over 100kg of heroin seized in Weligama

The Police Special Task Force recovered a quantity of heroin exceeding 100 kilograms at Kapparatota Beach in Weligama, the Government Information Department said. Weligama and Mirissa are both in the Matara area of Sri Lanka.

The recovery came after earlier reports described six sacks found on the Mirissa coastline, with a reported total weight above 120 kilograms. At the time, the contents were suspected to be narcotics; the later government update identified the Weligama haul as heroin.

Those earlier reports also said five suspects were taken into custody in relation to the discovery. The reports supplied no further information about their legal status or any subsequent action by authorities.
